Community Litter Grants to Stamp Out Litterbugs

Are you fed up with seeing litter in your neighbourhood?
Do you have a great idea to clean up your local area?

Get your project off the ground with funding through the Community Litter Grants.

A joint initiative of Keep NSW Beautiful and the NSW EPA, the Community Litter Grants are open for Round 2 in 2014. The program distributes funds, giving resources, tools and advice to community groups who are working to keep their local area clean.

The program is funded by the Waste Levy and is a Waste Less, Recycle More initiative by the NSW EPA.

Last Year’s Success Stories

“The grant kick-started our long term vision for our local park. Residents were able to work closely with council to improve the park’s facilities and promote a series of free events to bring people back into the park for recreational activities. Creating awareness and pride of place has greatly decreased the litter problem. We received such a positive response from local residents that we are continuing our project.”

Rebecca Lewis, Lalor Park Community Garden Public Officer

“We used the grant to tackle litter on our town oval. With excellent co-operation from our Shire’s Engineering Dept. we had 7 new metal Bins located round the oval, within 3 weeks of receiving our funds. This has made an enormous difference both at football games and our annual Field and Fun Day, as well as our Driver Reviver operation.”

Bill Elliot, President of the Wilcannia Community Tourism Association.

How to Apply

First you will need to register to do a ‘Local Litter Check’ in your area – comparing a litter hotspot with a clean area to find out what factors are allowing the hotspot to gather litter.

After the Local Litter Check is complete you can apply for your grant. You will need to give details of how you plan to spend the funds and what you want to achieve with your project.

We’re happy to answer any questions so don’t hesitate to get in touch on 02 8594 4099 or communitylittergrants@knswb.org.au.

This project is a NSW EPA Waste Less, Recycle More initiative funded by the waste levy.

Asbestos, is one of the main illegally dumped products that face local councils. The cost to collect the dumped product far out ways the subsidy that the EPA could offer to residents for free disposal with no government levy, attached.
